          Summer Song

          There are books in my drawers
          Cobwebs on my bed
          I’m heavy laden;
          There’s a light from an all-night drug store
          No One’s really there.
          Where is heaven?

          Times like this
          I think I have to clasp my hands
          The cold’s forcing me to pray,
          For my summer song has really gone away.

          I look for stars
          But the night is much too dark for them to show;
          And the blizzard on my window sill
          Is banging to come in
          Like memories from long ago
          But I can’t let that stranger in
          Though Christmas it may be
          So I sit and count the snow flakes fall,
          And I hear December sing a song
          To keep me company,
          But there is no one here
          At all.

          How I long to hold you
          In such a night as this,
          For the winter wind
          Has a cold and lifeless kiss;
          And I can’t imagine
          How I can end this day,
          For my summer song
          Has really gone away.
